STP 500

Race fans get a treat for enduring an early-season off week.

NASCAR makes an all-too rare appearance at a short track this coming Sunday when they roll into Southern Virginia. Courses less than a mile in length once dominated the circuit, but 1.5- and two-mile tracks overwhelmed them and track owners turned their backs on the money making potential.

Martinsville Speedway is a throwback track in many ways. The facilities have been updated since it first ran a paved race in fall 1955. That spring and six years previously, this track was dirt and it is the oldest venue on the current NASCAR schedule. While tracks like Nashville Fairgrounds and North Wilkesboro Speedway failed to keep up with improvements needed to remain viable, Martinsville has walked a delicate tightrope of staying true to its roots while giving fans the conveniences they have grown to expect.

  1. How come we can’t get previews by 6PM Pacific time like we got before you started charging for it. Why am I paying for this and it”s never ready on Wednesday???????

    • Gordon:

The preview actually was posted on Tuesday this week, which is a day earlier than I (almost) ever got it posted for Yahoo. That is going to be the target going forward: Tuesday evening or Wednesday early a.m. The email saying it was available went out a little late, and we will work on getting that to go out on Tuesdays as well. I put out a notification on Twitter, so if you are not following me @FantasyRace, that is one other way I communicate.

    • We need to get the notification email out earlier – and we need to put log-in instructions in it at the bottom in case they’re needed. Each comment helps us learn. I also have some subscribers who want the preview emailed to them each week. If you want me to put you on that list, let me know.

  2. Dan, I think I inadvertently paid for two (2) subscriptions in 2016. I assumed you would apply the extra one to 2017. Am I wrong about this?? Please let me know ASAP as the deadline for drivers fast approaches!!
    Thanks,

    R.L. Joseph
